I lost my anchor last weekend.  Any suggestions on anchors that don't take up a lot of space, are cheap(er) but hold decently.

I use a chunk of steel railroad tie.  It's about a 16"x 2"x 4".  It is relatively small, weighs a ton, and something you don't want to ever drop on your foot.

I've used a plastic bucket of concrete with an eye-bolt cemented in.  It holds pretty well and the plastic bucket won't damage your deck.
