Not the biggest, but big enough -- 59lb Blue

First time ever going to fish the Louisiana coast, went to catch some specks but decide to target some Reds instead.

Great trip, ended up staying 4 days and landed a lot of fish, Caught both from the surf and boat. Used mullet from bait.

Caught 20 Reds, 8 sharks, 1 big ass gar ~40-50 lbs. and 20 graftops(salt water cats). Could not beleive my wife caught the gar in the gulf. I did not know they lived in the Gulf.
Didn't get a pic of the gar as I was trying to roll him up on the seaweed and the line broke and off he went.

Here are a few pics of the big Reds. All were 33 to 44 inches.

Another highlight of the trip is we seen a rare Pink Dolphin....crazy did not know there was such a dophin.  icon_biggrin icon_eek

Hey Troy: great report on your trip..Would you mind giving location. Where you found bait, how many keeper reds and trout..Were you able to get any local info to help locate fish? Did you have motels or camp out, cafe's or tackle shop?

Hoping to go this fall and need a little help..Fiberglass or metal boat?.....Thanks ....Tracks

Sure, Cameron Parish,  Its about 1 hours east of Port Auther.

There are a few options there, fall should be good. There is an RV park, some Fema trailers, and some houses.

No sure the price at the RV park but the Fema trailers are $75 a night and they can sleep 5. The houses were $150 a night and sleep 5.

All were nice and were only 1-2 lots away from the beach, you can see the beach from all of them.

There is plenty of beach to fish, no particular spot just anywhere along the beach, we fish several spots and caught fish in all.

There are sloughs along the road you can cast net and catch mullets, you can also tie bait to strings and catch crabs as well, all good for Reds. If you take a boat just go into the marshes and toss the cast-net, just off of the shipping channel the water can get a couple feet deep and mullets were busting the water everywhere.

Did not talk to any locals there for fishing spot, like I stated before just fish the surf and we caught fish everywhere. Did not keep but a few fish all but 5 were CPR. Not much in that area as it has been wiped out 3 times by hurricanes but they are rebuilding.

TAKE mosquitoes spray as they will eat you alive..... icon_evil

Hope that helps.

ALSO the PAT rods ROCK, had them bent double while on the boat and not an issue one.  icon_biggrin
