Me and mudpuppy fished a couple of spots on elm fork creek looking for some big fish but kept running into damn turtles. Mudpuppy caught a nice sized soft shell at the 2nd spot. I was walking back from the truck and mudpuppy was waving his arms at me to hurry my ass up. He had hooked up with a gar on my rod for me. Sohe handed me the rod and it was on. Got it to the bank them it would take off and peel drag. Went on for a couple of mins then we finally netted him. 52"

Congratulations, I'm sure that was fun. So were you using a wire leader?  The small turtle looks angry! Great job guys.

Not familiar with names of rigs but slider weight on main line, swivel, then leader. Still trying to find more info on different gar setups. All I can find is websites for gar guides instead of tips and techniques

i got some more spots i want to try! where maybe there is less skeeters.  icon_evil that gar was so cool watching him come up and jump mouth wide open just cool icon_eek.
