1  General Area / Boat ramps and Parks / Re: Lavon Lake Update on: February 23, 2018, 05:52:18 PM
All -

Based on the current lake level, continued inflows, and expected rainfall, the following parks have been closed to maintain public safety:

          Brockdale
          Brattonia
          Ticky Creek
          Twin Groves
          Little Ridge
          Mallard.

The boat ramps at East Fork, Lavonia, Elm Creek, Clearlake, and Highland Parks remain open for use at this time.  Stay safe and always wear a life jacket when on the water!

Ranger Perrin

The main East Fork ramp is open.  The gates open at 6 am and close at sunset for day use (boat launch/picnic/watch the water/fishing/etc.).

I wanted to tell you that Ticky Creek has a brand new courtesy dock!  It is open and ready for use.

Please make sure to wear your life jackets.  As the weather and the water start to cool, life jackets begin to serve 2 functions - first, they help you stay afloat if you go overboard and second, they help retain body heat if you are in the water.

Fishin1 -

Both Clearlake boat ramps have received some attention.  The amount of money we could request and the scope of work for each of the 2 ramps was based on where the floodwaters impacted the ramps versus where the ramps had already begun to fail.  As such, when you look at the Clearlake North ramp, you will see substantially less work than when you look at the Clearlake South ramp.

Based on regular seasonal closures, the camping and north ramp loops in Clearlake are currently closed.  The south ramp is open with repaved parking and transition.

Respectfully,
Ranger Perrin

I am a bit delayed in getting this out, but wanted to tell you that Ticky Creek has a brand new courtesy dock!  We were able to launch it last week and it is ready for use.

Please make sure to wear your life jackets.  As the weather and the water start to cool, life jackets begin to serve 2 functions - first, they help you stay afloat if you go overboard and second, they help retain body heat if you are in the water.

I appreciate the opportunity to keep the community informed of what's going on at Lavon.  To that end, please note that the courtesy dock at Lavonia South has been replaced with a longer gangway.

Stay safe,
Ranger Perrin

We have completed work on 3 courtesy docks.  The courtesy dock at the main East Fork boat ramp has been extended further into the water to both lessen the angle of the dock at regular lake levels and extend the utility of the dock during low water events.  The courtesy dock inside Lavonia Park has been replaced.  The courtesy dock at the main Clearlake boat ramp has been replaced.

Also, Pebble Beach has been opened back up.

Remember, Life Jackets float, you don't!  Always wear a properly fitted life jacket when on the water.

I am sure some of you have noticed, but for those that have not been back out there yet, Little Ridge Park is open!  Good luck fishing and remember to wear your life jacket!

Mallard Park has reopened and is ready for business.

Please remember to wear a properly fitted life jacket while on the water and to file a float plan with a loved one before venturing out.

The main boat ramp in East Fork is now open for business!  The transition road to the marina ramp still has some much needed repair work and will not be opening at this time.

Both Mallard and Little Ridge are still closed as the repairs in those parks are not yet complete.  Once the repairs are complete, both will reopen.

Please remember, Life Jackets Float, You Don't.  Regardless of how good a swimmer and boater you are, a properly fitted life jacket is the only choice when out on the water.

Stay safe,
Ranger Perrin

We will be closing Little Ridge Park on 18 May 17 at 8:00 am to prepare for the asphalt repair work in that park.  Please make sure that your vehicles are off the ramp and out of the park before that.  Vehicles in the park at 8:00 am on the 18th are subject to towing at owner's expense.

We understand that this is a very popular ramp adjacent to good fishing and calmer water.  Because of the damages done to the ramp by the floods, there isn't a way to keep the ramp open and execute the repairs at the same time.  As such, the ramp and park will have to be closed.  We are working to minimize interruptions to access and look forward to the repairs being completed soon.

Thank you for your help and understanding,
Ranger Perrin

Repairs are progressing at East Fork Park.  Provided the weather holds and there are no hiccups in the construction, that should be complete within the next few weeks.

We do expect to be able to open the main boat ramp after the repairs.  We do not have a definitive date for when that will be, but we will post it here and on the USACE website as soon as it is available for use.

Part of the effort at East Fork includes repairs to both boat ramps.  Because the road into the marina ramp is still in terrible condition, the marina ramp will not open even after this round of repairs is complete.  The portion of the marina ramp impacted by the flood and thus covered by the repair monies, did not include the road.  We are working a contract to execute those repairs but that is not a quick process.

Moving forward, the contractor will be working in Mallard Park.  You may have noticed that it closed on Friday.  Because of where the repairs are being made, the whole park has to close temporarily.  It will remain so until those repairs are complete.

While that is an impressive structure, we would like to remind everyone that unauthorized placement of anything on USACE lands or in USACE waters constitutes a violation of 36 CFR 327.  Lavon is full of extensive natural structure.  Please refrain from adding additional material, whether man-made or natural, in Lavon Lake.

Thank you,
Ranger Perrin

Repair of the parking lots and roads is set to begin soon!  Because of the nature of the work, this will require closing the affected facilities while repairs are being made.  We'll keep adding to this post as each facility is affected so you will know where they are working and can adjust where you launch.  We understand that changing ramps will be a short-term, small inconvenience for some of you.  We appreciate your patience as we have worked through getting the funding, executing the contract, and now moving into repairs.

Again, we want to manage expectations.  Please understand, this is not a complete repaving of facilities.  It only covers repairing the portions of the facilities damaged by the flooding back to their pre-flood condition.

Ranger Perrin

36 CFR 327.2(c) specifically prohibits driving off road on USACE property as described in the post above.  The text of that section reads "The operation and/or parking of a vehicle off authorized roadways is prohibited except at locations designated by the District Commander.  Taking any vehicle through, around or beyond a restrictive sign, recognizable barricade, fence or traffic control barrier is prohibited."  The maximum punishment for violation of 36 CFR 327 is a fine of not more than $5,000 or imprisonment for not more than 6 months or both.

Illegal off road activity directly and negatively affects the lake and watershed you all love to fish.  We are committed to continued stewardship of the lands and waters here at Lavon Lake.  We need your assistance to ensure that this kind of illegal activity is not promoted and does not occur.  Please park in appropriate areas and walk to your destination.

As always, please remember to wear your life jackets!

Respectfully,
Ranger Perrin
