1  Fishing Lake Lavon / SandBass/Hybrid/Striper Fishing Forum / Re: Lures to Catch White Bass from the Bank on: March 01, 2019, 12:03:10 PM
Thanks Redloon. That is a good idea with a crappie jig and bobber I will try it.

I figured with the muddy lake you would need a roostertail or something to stir up the water a bit more. If anyone has more lures to try let me know

What lures would you recommend for fishing for white bass from the bank?

I plan to use a spinning reel and was looking for something that will not get snagged easily.

Nice catch. What bait did you use?

A sit on top kayak is easy to get in and out of. Find a kayak with rod holders built in or with accessory racks to mount a rod holder.

Spend a little bit more upfront and buy a nice, thick hulled kayak.

Just got off the lake during the thunderstorm and plenty of bites but no keepers.

Wear a long sleeve shirt for bugs, bring bug spray. An electric lantern and flashlights work fine. Plenty of snakes out at night but just walk slow and make noise.

Nice story. That is a nice pond/lake. Would not have guessed the park is that old
9  Fishing Lake Lavon / Crappie Fishing Forum / Re: Any ramps open? on: March 23, 2018, 08:49:19 PM
Highland park is closed as of now (Friday). I was out fishing Tuesday there and the water was high but the ramp was still usable. Hopefully they open Little Ridge up soon for the guys that fish the east side of the lake.

Do the barbless hooks still hold the fish well?

I will try out a pack of large 8/0 hooks. I figured larger hooks would deter fish but it sounds like that is not an issue.

Thanks fellas. The link is helpful, getting a hook that rusts out quick is a good idea. I will look for a non offset hook this time.

Thank you. I will go to Academy soon and get those hooks.

Sounds like you are catching some nice ones.

What is the best catch and release catfish hook for bank fishing?

I usually use a 5/0 circle hook but have started having gut hooks with them.

Thanks

14  Fishing Lake Lavon / Catfishing Forum / Re: Any results lately? on: September 03, 2017, 12:32:19 PM
The last few times catfishing have been very slow.  I have used chicken liver & shad in 5-10 foot deep water. I have been out around sunset so that may have been the problem. Best of luck. Hopefully the corps keeps bank fishing spots open for us especially at night.

Thank you for opening the park, that is a good bank fishing spot
