Welcome to the forum! And to freshwater fishing.   icon_mrgreen
Where did you come from? Saltwater?

Good advice Mr. P.
Also the RR bridge near Mallard Park is good for banking. Although, also not good for small kids.

A good pond/lake that's good for bream/bluegill is called Southlake. It is on the map south of Farmersville.
It has kind of a park environment but very isolated and has some picnic tables and shade I think.

Good luck out there!

I posted this on FB so it sounds generic, but most of you know Carey.  icon_cool

================================================================

How you can help volunteers for Houston flood victims directly.
My friend Carey and his wife Sarah and friend Cody have been down there for two days on the front lines, sleeping in their truck and helping pluck families from their flooded homes.
They are doing this mostly on their own expense even though some friend's and PayPal support has come in already.
Carey Thorn is a fishing guide in the Dallas area and he has the right style of boat (shallow draft, aluminum) for driving in flooded neighborhoods and city streets.
However, there are many hazards and he already has a damaged propeller and trailer which will have to be repaired for his livelihood. Also, since he is not guiding, Carey is without his normal income.
If you would like to help out a little bit or a lot for someone is there now volunteering, you can contribute to their PayPal account.

PayPal
Thorn_alex@yahoo.com

When using the PayPal option “sending to a friend” there are no fees. Even 5 or 10 dollars would be welcome. If there is any left over, Sarah will use it to purchase diapers or food for the stranded families there.
Thanks!

There are a lot of rains soaked people being rescued.

This is a photo from a news report. It is unbelievable how much water is there and how many people are affected.

Last Friday after the rain I took a dog we've had for a week to Lavon. At first, he was looking at me like "why are we out here". Then I started catching little crappie and his level of interest changed significantly. When it slowed down, he would whimper and look at me like I was not doing my job. He's a chihuahua terrier mix, but as you can see in the video, he may have a little retriever in him.

Looks like a great fishing buddy. Perfect life vest for him.
Skippy rides again!!

You should have left him in for awhile, a big cat might have thought he was a meal.  icon_lol

You're gettin' to be ornery Cliff!!   icon_cool

for young kids you have two choices IMO, Bream (perch) or white (sand) bass

For bream try any local pond with very small hooks and bobber with a tiny piece of bait (cheese works) on the barb only
You can also try the rocks (rip rap) around any boat ramp or bridge, but there won't be as many in a pond.

If you have a boat, try Sandies. check out Carey Thorn's post on here or on FB.

Good luck!

Glen called them since he is launching tomorrow. Somebody just forgot to open at 6 am. Didn't get opened until 10:45.
Rangers and volunteers will meet and open at 6.

thanks for posting!

WTG!
Good catch!

Thanks for the info.

I have heard of people using the north ramp. I wonder what the issue is.
