1  General Area / General Discussion / She's a rising again on: September 23, 2018, 09:43:04 AM
Wow - four feet low to 2 feet above in the last 36 hours  Probably rise another 1' - 2' with all the runoff and rain forecast for later on this week.

2  General Area / Boat ramps and Parks / Re: Lavon Lake Update on: September 05, 2018, 06:30:28 AM
I took a drive out to East Fork park this Labor Day weekend to see if the ramp in the marina cove was open.  I stopped and asked the gate attendant and she told me it was finally open.

I paid my $5.00 entry fee to go in for a look. (last time I went in it was $3.00 but that was a few years ago which was probably right before Lavon flooded and damaged the road to the ramp).   I asked her if the potholes in the road had been repaired and she just smiled at me - not a good sign.

Anyway I drove in and noticed for the most part the pothole situation had not changed.  The big potholes where you make a 90 degree right turn just before going down to the ramp parking lot were still there.  The big potholes coming out of the parking lot and up the left hand sweeping turn were still there.   At least I don't have to learn new pothole locations when playing pothole dodge. icon_cry

3  General Area / General Discussion / Reminder - time to get a new fishing license on: September 01, 2018, 05:52:55 PM
August 31st has passed and I just remembered the fishing license expired.  I'll have to get a new one before going out tomorrow morning.
4  General Area / General Discussion / Afternoon storms 8/18/2018 on: August 19, 2018, 10:38:52 AM
Storms that blew thru in the late afternoon were pretty strong.  Saw some pretty intense lightning also.
I drove through the neighborhood this morning (8/19/18) and counted at least 20 trees blown down and/or very large branches ripped off.  Also saw several fences damaged.

I just hope no one was on the lake when the storms came roaring in.
5  General Area / General Discussion / Texas heat is on! on: July 22, 2018, 09:07:08 AM
I haven't been fishing the last two weeks due to the excessive heat.  Definitely didn't go yesterday with 109 degrees and the same 108-109 temperatures forecast for today (7/22/2018).

I find myself thinking more and more about the first trout stocking this year in November and cooler temperatures to come.
Last December I made the trip to Waterloo Park when the temperature was 23 degrees.  It was cold but that sounds mighty good right about now.

Seems like every time I go to work on the boat in the afternoon, the skeeters come out and start attacking - wish there were fewer of those pesky critters!

Way to go Tim!

I was out Saturday with my son who came down for Father's Day.  It was slow for us too.  Talked to a guy who was fishing in the same area we were and he reported it to be slow also.
He said a couple of days earlier he caught a bunch of crappie off of one brushpile where we were fishing.

Just my luck - it is always better a couple of days before I get to go fishing.

Went to South Lake again Saturday morning (May 19th).  The wind was kicking up somewhat and making it hard to fish the reed line where I catch most of the fish.

I kept at it and it paid off - managed to catch another good mess of bluegill.  I'll skip to the final results - see attached picture.

Was it full of crappie?

Went out to Little Ridge Saturday for some fishing.  Saw that the courtesy dock was cordoned off due to missing planks on the walkway to the dock.

Anyone know how long it will take to get this fixed?

Is the East Fork protected ramp still unavailable due to the road being messed up?

Finally made a trip this morning to South Lake in Farmersville for some bluegill/bream fishing.  I used my 1964 Super Skeeter which was perfect for this size lake.
Got there about 8:00 a.m. - beautiful morning to be on the water.  Brought back 25 for a fish fry tomorrow - yummy.

I had to chase down the title to the boat as it didn't have a title when I bought it  I eventually found the registered owner and he helped me get a title.
He told me he bought the boat new when he was 15 years old.  He was too young to drive at the time so he had to have his dad tow the boat to South Lake when he wanted to go fishing.
The boat went thru a couple of different owners since he sold it and now approximately 54 years later I own it and brought it back to South Lake today for some fishing.

They were releasing 4000 cfs when I went by the dam around 5 p.m. yesterday afternoon.  It was shoulder to shoulder fishing on the bank below the dam and I saw a few good stringers of healthy 13" to 15" fat sandbass and also saw one hybrid on a stringer.  It was on last night!

With all the rain we got last night I'm surprised the gates aren't open wider now.

In the picture, you can see a couple of good stringers of sandbass by the guy in the blue shirt in the middle of the picture.
P.S.  I think you have to be logged in to be able to see the pictures.

Made the trip to Waterloo Park again this morning.  Limited out and managed to catch one of the Palomino Rainbow Trout (the one in the middle).

Almost 5' above normal pool.  Ought to be any day now.
