I also struck out on trout at Waterloo Park and on striper fishing below Denison Dam yesterday.  I think the strong cold front that blew thru Friday night had something to do with it.

I'm glad the forum is back also.  I was beginning to wonder if it was gone forever due to lack of use.
3  General Area / Other Lakes / Trout and a striper on: January 11, 2019, 03:23:50 PM
Made the trip to Waterloo Park last weekend for a little trout fishing.  I got my limit pretty quick so decided to head on up to Denison Dam for a little striper fishing since it was still early in the morning.  Ended up with 5 trout, one of which was a Palomino trout.  Rounded out the morning with a 9 pound, 26" striper from below Denison Dam.  It was a pretty good day for fishing.  I think I need a bigger cutting board though.

Is Turner Falls for fly fishing only?
5  Fishing Lake Lavon / Panfish Fishing Forum / Re: Fall Fishing on Southlake on: December 02, 2018, 12:34:23 PM
Had to answer my own question.  I went to Southlake this morning for some bream fishing.  I think I waited to late in the season as  I didn't even get one bite.  The water temperature was around 55 degrees which was probably too cold.

NOTE to self:  Go next fall before the water temperature gets below 64 degrees.

The good news - trout season starts December 14th with the stocking of Waterloo Park in Denison.

I went yesterday morning and was casting from the catwalk into the current from the open gates,  I caught a sandbass on almost every cast but unfortunately the majority of them were 6-8 inches long.  I only caught two that were worth keeping and I threw them back.

It was good exercise casting with my surf rod and a great morning to be out.   It wasn't too crowded early in the morning.

Has anyone fished on Lake Bonham for crappie recently?  Wondering if it is any good and if I should make a trip up there next weekend?

Wow - four feet low to 2 feet above in the last 36 hours  Probably rise another 1' - 2' with all the runoff and rain forecast for later on this week.

9  General Area / Boat ramps and Parks / Re: Lavon Lake Update on: September 05, 2018, 06:30:28 AM
I took a drive out to East Fork park this Labor Day weekend to see if the ramp in the marina cove was open.  I stopped and asked the gate attendant and she told me it was finally open.

I paid my $5.00 entry fee to go in for a look. (last time I went in it was $3.00 but that was a few years ago which was probably right before Lavon flooded and damaged the road to the ramp).   I asked her if the potholes in the road had been repaired and she just smiled at me - not a good sign.

Anyway I drove in and noticed for the most part the pothole situation had not changed.  The big potholes where you make a 90 degree right turn just before going down to the ramp parking lot were still there.  The big potholes coming out of the parking lot and up the left hand sweeping turn were still there.   At least I don't have to learn new pothole locations when playing pothole dodge. icon_cry

10  General Area / General Discussion / Reminder - time to get a new fishing license on: September 01, 2018, 05:52:55 PM
August 31st has passed and I just remembered the fishing license expired.  I'll have to get a new one before going out tomorrow morning.
11  General Area / General Discussion / Afternoon storms 8/18/2018 on: August 19, 2018, 10:38:52 AM
Storms that blew thru in the late afternoon were pretty strong.  Saw some pretty intense lightning also.
I drove through the neighborhood this morning (8/19/18) and counted at least 20 trees blown down and/or very large branches ripped off.  Also saw several fences damaged.

I just hope no one was on the lake when the storms came roaring in.
12  General Area / General Discussion / Texas heat is on! on: July 22, 2018, 09:07:08 AM
I haven't been fishing the last two weeks due to the excessive heat.  Definitely didn't go yesterday with 109 degrees and the same 108-109 temperatures forecast for today (7/22/2018).

I find myself thinking more and more about the first trout stocking this year in November and cooler temperatures to come.
Last December I made the trip to Waterloo Park when the temperature was 23 degrees.  It was cold but that sounds mighty good right about now.

Seems like every time I go to work on the boat in the afternoon, the skeeters come out and start attacking - wish there were fewer of those pesky critters!

Way to go Tim!

I was out Saturday with my son who came down for Father's Day.  It was slow for us too.  Talked to a guy who was fishing in the same area we were and he reported it to be slow also.
He said a couple of days earlier he caught a bunch of crappie off of one brushpile where we were fishing.

Just my luck - it is always better a couple of days before I get to go fishing.
15  Fishing Lake Lavon / Panfish Fishing Forum / Re: Spring fishing on South Lake on: May 20, 2018, 09:35:22 PM
Went to South Lake again Saturday morning (May 19th).  The wind was kicking up somewhat and making it hard to fish the reed line where I catch most of the fish.

I kept at it and it paid off - managed to catch another good mess of bluegill.  I'll skip to the final results - see attached picture.
