Nice thought, but to small for large surf rods. And you have to travel with surf rods parallel to the ground, cause perpendicular won't work in any tree lined path.
A US Army duffel bag holds lots of gear and the 2 shoulder straps make it more stable to carry than any single strap. And if your gonna take a long hike, it perfectly fits one of those round, orange, 5 Gal drink coolers, which can be stuffed with a fair amount of bait and ice, and still leaves plenty of room for rod holders, tackle, etc in the bag. A folding chair can be bungeed to the duffel as well. And a US Army duffel is half that price. bundle your rods together so you can carry in 1 hand, and you still have a hand free.

Here's something pretty useful for night fishing. Cheap, rugged, throw out a ton of lights and a 4 pack here is currently 13 bucks-
